Robert John Downey Jr. (born April 4, 1965)is an American actor and producer. His career has been characterized by critical and popular success in his youth, followed by a period of substance abuse and legal troubles, before a resurgence of commercial success later in his career. In 2008, Downey was named by Time magazine among the 100 most influential people in the world,and from 2013 to 2015, he was listed by Forbes as Hollywood's highest-paid actor.

Achievements

A two-time Academy Award nominee, Downey is the winner of 3 Golden Globe awards. He won a BAFTA Award for Best Actor in the acclaimed biopic Chaplin (1992). Downey earned his second Oscar nomination, for Best Supporting Actor, for his work in Ben Stiller's comedy hit “Tropic Thunder” (2008).

Robert Downey Jr. is best known for playing Iron Man, but he's been acting since he was a child. The actor's highest-rated films include "Short Cuts" (1993) and "True Believer" (1989). His lowest-rated movies, however, are "Johnny Be Good" (1988) and "Friends and Lovers" (1999).
